The old woodland, which surrounds Future Woodland, is a place of family nostalgia. These were the grandchildren’s childhood woods where they would come down to play. Being surrounded by a small woodland at the bottom of the hill and looking up to the empty field, the family began thinking, could we expand this habitat for nature to thrive?
Future Woodland’s objectives:
• Expand the green corridor between the existing woodland and new woodland.
• Create a habitat for wildlife such as badgers which have been seen in the area.
• Create a family legacy that has the potential to be an educational site and yoga space for the grandchildren.
Public access and management:
The Wood surrounding the woodland has a public footpath running through it that borders onto the woodland, where locals use it to walk their dogs.
Enhancing wildlife:
This mosaic landscape of both old and new woodland, woodland pasture and open grassland will benefit local wildlife such as badgers, buzzards and hares.
Engagement, health and wellbeing:
Maddie, grandchild, hopes to use the new woodland as a potential place for a yoga class and the other grandchild China, a teacher, is keen to use the space for educational purposes.
