Community Orchard Workday: Restorative Pruning

View all events

As part of the ‘Orchard for Pollinators’ Project we are running a programme of Orchard maintenance workshops and volunteer days across Bristol, Bath and South Glos. With the aim of recruiting and training up volunteers to have the skills to care for their local community orchards.

For this session our Project Officer Janine, will deliver training in restorative fruit tree pruning on mature apple trees including key priciples and practical techniques. We will be using a range of hand tools including long handled pruners and pruning saws.

The day will consist of a training session and demo to start, followed by supervised practical work on the trees.

All Health and Safety provision will be covered in safety briefing at the start of the session.

No skills or expertise required, all training, tools and PPE are provided. Please bring sturdy footwear and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, a packed lunch and plenty of water. Unfortunately there are no toilet facilities on site. Volunteering can be physical work on uneven or wet ground. Work is at your own pace and we will aim to provide a range of tasks for all abilities. Not suitable for under 18’s
