This project transformed a neglected urban space into the Keynsham Community Orchard, creating a green haven for both people and wildlife. The orchard connects residents with nature and their local history by reintroducing an orchard close to the site of a former historical orchard.
Key goals included enhancing urban biodiversity, engaging the community (especially the local school) in planting and maintenance, and providing educational opportunities about horticulture and sustainable food. The orchard aims to offer a tranquil space for wellbeing and strengthens community bonds.
Residents and students actively participated in planting, in doing so, learning new skills. This initiative also provides significant environmental benefits, including improved air quality, enhanced biodiversity, and increased carbon sequestration.
The Keynsham Community Orchard is a lasting legacy, demonstrating the positive impact of community collaboration and urban green spaces.
