SUMMARY:Orchard Workday: Winter Pruning at Elderberry Walk Orchard
DESCRIPTION:Join the Forest of Avon for a day of Winter fruit tree pruning and orchard care. \nJanine from the Forest of Avon \, will deliver training in Winter fruit tree pruning techniques on the young fruit trees in the Elderberry Walk Orchard located in Elderberry Walk Open Space\, Bristol. Attendees will be taught the key principles in fruit tree pruning\, and practical techniques in how to effectively prune apple and pear trees. \nThe day will consist of the training session in the morning and then an afternoon of practicing the techniques learnt under the supervision of Janine. All Health and Safety provision will be covered in safety briefing at the start of the session. We aim to train up local communities in practical orchard management. \nFor this session our Project Officer Janine\, will deliver a training workshop and practical session in orchard maintenance. We will be carrying out some much needed repairs on the tree stakes and tree ties and carrying weeding and mulching tasks around the trees. \nAll Health and Safety provisions will be covered in the safety briefing at the start of the session. \nNo skills or expertise required\, all training\, tools and PPE are provided.

SUMMARY:Community Orchard Workday: Maintenance
DESCRIPTION:As part of the ‘Orchard for Pollinators’ Project we are running a programme of practical Community Orchard workshops and volunteer workdays across Bristol\, Bath and South Glos. With the aim of bringing orchards into active management to improve the habitat for local wildlife whilst providing training to volunteers in Orchard management. \nFor this session our Project Officer\, Janine\, will be showing the group how to look after the orchard\, with tasks including weeding and mulching around the trees. \nNo skills or expertise required\, all training\, tools and PPE are provided. Please wear sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing\, a packed lunch and plenty of water. Activities not suitable for under 16’s. Unfortunately there are no toilet facilities on site.
